Author supplied keywords
Some journals require that authors provide keywords for their papers. This is the case, for example, with Information Processing & Management and with Journal of Documentation. The last journal introduced about 2005 a system of controlled vocabulary for author assigned keywords.
Some databases index author supplied keywords in specific fields. This is the
case with Ovid databases: "The Author Keywords (kW) field contains author
assigned terms that describe the document. This field exists only for documents
where the author has assigned keywords." (Ovid
Technologies Field Guide, 2005.)
